Something wicked this way comes.
This Fall & Spring experience a drum-beating, hair-raising, blood-pumping, two-faced production of William Shakespeare’s Tragedie of Macbeth. A creative collaboration between Glass Dove Productions, Theater in the Open, and Vicious Mole Theatre Collective, with producing partners The Firehouse Center for the Arts and the Players’ Ring.
In Fall 2023 we will bring our ensemble together in Essex County, Massachusetts to create our Macbeth in five days, using a “quick-raise” rehearsal process which combines original Elizabethan theatrical practices with modern ensemble-building techniques. This initial series of performances will be bare-bones, essential, utilizing a bare stage or found space, a few scraps of fabric, a drum, the voices & bodies of the actors, and the crucial ingredient of 400-year-old words that still fire the imagination.
In Spring 2024 we will bring the same ensemble of actors to Portsmouth, NH, to dress our show in artfully designed & constructed theatrical light & costumes, to re-experienced our work from a new angle. Designers will work in dialogue with what they see in the Fall production, making this a collaboration or conversation between stripped-down Elizabethan practice & modern theatrical tools & technology.
We hope you’ll come to see each iteration of this production and join us on this nine-month journey into Macbeth!
Tickets are already on sale for both iterations!

We are currently raising funds to provide actor compensation during this unusual process which requires commitment across two productions six months apart. If you can help us out by making a tax-deductible donation we deeply appreciate it. Contributions will go toward actor compensation, for rehearsal & performance time, as well as transportation and other costs.
